The cartoon captive orca on your t-shirt represents Lolita,
a beautiful whale who was living in the Salish Sea off
Whidbey Island, WA when she was taken from her family on
August 8, 1970. Lolita was shipped to the Miami Seaquarium
where she has been forced to perform tricks daily for the
last 43 years. She is confined alone, in the smallest orca
tank in North America - a tank which fails to meet the US
Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) minimum standards for
housing a whale of her size.
